Our last hurrah in Venice

Saturday's weather was beautiful, so I convinced Scott that we should go out to the island of San Giorgio Maggiore so I could get some panoramic photos of the city. We had seen some sailboats out in the lagoon as we crossed, and, about five minutes after we arrived a cannon sounded, the fireboat started spraying water and the boats began jockeying for position on the starting line.
notice the little drone flying over the race start?

We watched as they sailed out past St. Mark's, then we explored the island a bit.  They had a couple of unique exhibits...

One was about a glass maker who joined a famous Venetian firm and brought new ideas and techniques to them.  we saw his vases, sculptures, whimsy. Who knew that Venice made Scottish glass?

Outside, in a zen-like garden lined with stone walkways and bamboo was a glass teahouse.

My real reason for coming to the island was to go up in the bell tower to get shots of Venice.  I realized as I got to the top at 2:58, I was going to get to experience standing under a very large bell as it is ringing.  I was ready for it... some around me were taken by surprise.

After my ears stopped ringing, I got some great shots.  Check these out!

the sailboats in front of the naval history museum... that tall ship wasn't there when we visited that area on Monday

It was a great afternoon... a fitting way to end our visit to Venice.
