Duomo

Coming back from the Galileo Museum, our route brought us out behind the Duomo --a side we had not yet seen.  I got a few shots as we walked around it.

The north entrance to the cathedral.  These people are lined up waiting to climb the dome.

the Baptistry

We discovered that the scaffolding around the Baptistry had been removed, so it was now possible to get a shot of both the building and the famous Porta del Paradiso (Door of Paradise), gilded bronze doors created by Lorenzo Ghiberti around 1425.

That evening, after dinner, we went back to the Piazza del Duomo for a few night shots.  It was a chance to use my new monopod.

The stark lighting actually brings out elements that aren't visible in the daylight.  The gilded paint around some of the figures really reflects the light --check out the halos around the figures and the stars overhead in some of the niches.
