Florence Opera

Wednesday night we saw Cosi Fan Tutti at the new opera house.  This modern building is similar to the Sydney opera house -- lots of wood, glass, modern art.

Even the production was modern... instead of the traditional 17th century costumes and scenery, we had an Italian gym, park and palace -- all set next to a swimming pool (the orchestra pit).

The modernization worked... except for the two male leads who disguise themselves as "Albanians" - their costumes looked like they came out of some Pasha's harem and the staging treated them like Indian gurus. 

 

A fun evening, all in all!  We had a nice dinner of Florentine steaks beforehand.  Scott's came with fresh porcini mushrooms and I had mine with a green pepper sauce.  MMM good!
