We arrived at dawn. |
the city wakes up |
Since we would be visiting Melbourne after the cruise,
we did not get one of the ship’s tours.
Instead we used the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the city’s
tram service and to have a quick look at where our Air BnB was located.

Melbourne "Eye" Docklands |
We will be out in the docklands, a development just
west of the main downtown area, but what is nice is that it is included in the
free tram zone. We will be able to
sightsee by catching the tram right in front of the building and going anywhere
in the city.

We found out that they have two kinds of trams (old
and new) – the old ones have steps so Scott can’t use his scooter. The newer trams have handicapped entrances,
but on the way back to the port, we had an idiot driver that stopped short of
the tram station (and the sidewalk was about a foot below the door). At
first the driver was coming through the car saying “hop off” but then he realized
Scott was on a scooter and helped lower it to the pavement.
The area near the port has a boulevard called the Embarcadero, much like San Francisco.
