We took the 8:40 ICE train. (ICE = Inter-City Express) They do not stop at every station, but a select few key points.
This train stopped at the last German town, and the DB engine was detached and the Dutch engine was added. We also noticed the announcements went from being only in German, to German, Dutch and English.

We arrived at Amsterdam Central Station, about 6 hours earlier than originally scheduled. We found our way to the boat, and got the briefing from the owner.

Since the sun was out, we relaxed in deck chairs on the "poop deck" waving to tourists going past in the canal tour boats.

We also have carriages in the neighborhood.
