Fall Harvest

Since the temp this morning was 28, we decided it was time to take down the cold frame and clear the plants out of the greenhouse.

first time we've ever grown Brussel sprouts!

Also a first... celery!

Swans

Scott spotted these swans on his way into town to get the propane tanks filled... they were in the marsh between the railroad tracks and the airport.   He came home and told me, so I grabbed the telephoto and managed to get a few good shots.

These birds are among the first to arrive each spring, and the last to leave in the fall... must mean winter is on its way.  (After the past 24 hours where we had high winds, 12+ hours where the power grid was down [but we were chugging away on our emergency generator], and a 5.4 earthquake just 40 miles NNE of here, we're ready for anything.)

The windstorm knocked down alot of the leaves, but there were enough so I could capture a bit of the color left on the range.

Deere Barn

This is the big project that has been taking up all our time.  It will be a garage for the tractor and all its attachments (snowblower, bush-hog, forklifts, post-hole digger, wood chipper) and a woodshop.

Denali Trip

Scott's cousin was visiting, so we got to play tour guides!  We hit Denali at the height of the blueberry season, and the bears were out in force.  We saw 17, including a couple that came within 30 feet of the bus (giving me the chance to use my new telephoto lens).

We saw plenty of other animals as well, including some Dall Sheep that were below us on the hills near Polychrome Pass.
